Through our participatory research, we have gathered rich insights and evidence that demonstrate that community members possess both the wisdom and capacity to care for one another effectively. There is also a role here for Policy and Decision makers, where they can support to create conditions that enable this care to flourish.

This tool has been developed for policy and decision makers, to provide a framework for nurturing different types of networks and practices, whilst also considering any systemic barriers.

Coordinated action is required across multiple policy areas, with sustained investment in community-led initiatives, and a recognition of community care as essential urban infrastructure, which can enhance resilience, reduce inequality, and create more connected and caring neighbourhoods.

Each category of care below offers: the different senses involved, actions that the community wants to see, ideas for 'policy in action', provocations that you may use to guide your own work, and examples of best practice from around the UK.
